Gracie Barra Dubai SO is the Silicon Oasis academy of Gracie Barra UAE, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu group with branches across Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. It sits in SIT Tower, Office 308, on the 3rd floor. For children, the Silicon Oasis branch runs three age-banded programmes: Little Champions 1 for 4 and 5 year olds, Little Champions 2 for ages 6 to 10, and Juniors & Teens for ages 11 to 15. The youngest group focuses on coordination, balance, focus, listening skills and confidence through games and age-appropriate technique, while the older groups add self-defence, fitness and resilience. The academy also runs Ladies and Adult classes, so parents can train too. New students can book two free trial classes online, and a full uniform is provided for the trial. Prices and the weekly timetable aren't listed online, so ask the academy for class times for your child's age group before you book.

The activity

Martial Arts, explained

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling martial art built on leverage and technique rather than strikes, so it works well for kids of different sizes. Classes cover positional control, escapes and holds, taught progressively through drills and supervised practice with a partner. It builds discipline, body awareness, confidence and practical self-defence skills, and many academies split children into age-banded groups so younger kids aren't training alongside teenagers. Most kids' programmes start children somewhere between ages 3 and 5 with a playful, movement-based introduction before moving on to more technical classes.

Who it's for

Boys and girls aged 4-15 at this branch: Little Champions 1 (4 & 5 years), Little Champions 2 (6-10 years) and Juniors & Teens (11-15 years). No previous experience needed - the trial form starts from 'This is my first class'. Ladies and Adult programmes run for 16+.

What to expect

Book a trial time online, get a confirmation, then arrive at SIT Tower Office 308 at least 10 minutes before the class starts - late arrivals aren't allowed to join. Bring a water bottle and wear flip-flops or easy-to-remove shoes; a full uniform is provided for the trial. A parent or guardian signs the trial waiver for under-18s. Worth knowing: the waiver states that photos and videos are taken in all classes for coaching and marketing, and agreeing to this is a condition of taking part.
