About JKA Shotokan Karate Club Dubai
JKA Shotokan Karate Club teaches traditional Shotokan karate to children from age 4, as well as teens, adults and ladies, at dojos in Dubai Silicon Oasis, Al Nahda 2 and Al Furjan. The club describes itself as an official Japan Karate Association (JKA) branch, and training follows the JKA system under Sensei Ameer Adukkattil, JKA 6th Dan Black Belt and chief instructor. Each branch has its own kids-only classes in the afternoon, with kids-and-teens classes through the early evening and at weekends; the timetable differs by branch, so pick yours to see it. Children work on kihon, kata and controlled kumite, and kyu and dan certificates come through the JKA pathway rather than from the club itself. Beginners are welcome, and a free trial class comes first: the team suggests a suitable timing based on your child's age and level. Monthly fees are set per branch, so check the branch you pick.
The activity
Martial Arts, explained
Shotokan karate is a traditional Japanese martial art built on three strands: kihon (basic stances, strikes and blocks), kata (set sequences of movements) and kumite (controlled sparring with a partner). Children learn dojo etiquette and respect for instructors and classmates, and move up through a coloured-belt system by passing gradings. Along the way it builds listening skills, focus, balance, coordination and confidence. Classes are structured and repetitive in a good way, so progress is easy to see from one belt to the next. At this club, kids can start from age 4.
Who it's for
Children from age 4 in kids-only classes, plus kids-and-teens classes; beginners with no previous experience are welcome. Each branch also runs adults and ladies classes. Mixed or separate boys/girls groups for kids, and support for special needs, are not published - ask the branch.
What to expect
Start with a free trial class, booked by WhatsApp or phone with your branch; the team suggests a beginner timing based on your child's age, level and branch availability, and asks you to book before visiting because timings can change around events, exams and holidays. Most regular classes last an hour. For the trial, comfortable sports clothes are usually enough; once registered, students wear a karate uniform (a dogi) as advised by the dojo. Classes cover basics, kata and controlled sparring at each child's level. Pick a branch on this page for its address, timetable and contact.
