About Lemon Wake

Lemon Wake is a small wakesurfing and wakeboarding club at Dubai Harbour Marina, started by a Dubai couple who took up wakesurfing at a birthday party in 2021 and went on to buy their own boat. Sessions run behind an Axis T220 wake boat with a Surfgate system for custom waves. The boat takes up to 7 people, and friends or family who ride or just come along for the view pay nothing extra. Most riders are adults, but the club's FAQ says children can ride from 6 if they are comfortable in the water, and younger ones can sit on the boat for the ride. Beginners book an Instructor Ride; stronger riders can pick a named coach. Between them, the coaches speak English, Arabic, French and Russian. Boards, life vests, towels, sunscreen and drinks are included, and you book online or on WhatsApp.

The activity

Wakeboarding, explained

Wakesurfing and wakeboarding both happen behind a boat built to make a big wake. In wakeboarding, the rider's feet are strapped to a short board and they hold the rope the whole time, carving across the wake and, later, trying jumps. In wakesurfing, the board is surf-style with no bindings: once the rider is up, they let go of the rope and ride the wave the boat makes. A first go is mostly about getting up out of the water, with a coach talking the rider through stance and balance. It builds balance, leg strength and confidence in open water. Riders wear a life vest, and Lemon Wake takes children from 6 who are comfortable in the water.

Who it's for

Beginners to experienced riders. The club's FAQ says children should be at least 6 years old and comfortable in the water; younger children can come on the boat and enjoy the ride without riding. Beginners are guided by an instructor on the Instructor Ride; the Regular Ride has no instructor and is meant for experienced riders. Sessions are private boat time for up to 7 people, so it suits a family or a group of friends. Much of the site is aimed at adults (a Tuesday ladies' day, and a wake camp described as a sport camp for adults), so ask how they coach younger riders when you book.

What to expect

You meet at Harbour Marina, Dubai International Marine Club, at Dubai Harbour. For a child's first go, book an Instructor Ride: a coach guides stance, balance and technique, and riders can try both wakesurfing and wakeboarding in the same session at no extra cost. Boards, ropes, life vests, towels, sunscreen and drinks are provided, so bring swimwear, plus your own towel and toiletries if you want to shower in the Marina building afterwards. The club suggests allowing about 30 minutes per rider. There is no free trial, but a promotional 20-minute Meet & Greet group session for beginners is listed at AED 220; ask whether it suits a child.
