About Big Wake

Big Wake is a wakesurf club that runs sessions from a Centurion Ri245 boat berthed at Dubai Harbour Yacht Club (Berth AG-62), about 2 minutes from JBR. You book the boat by time: one session is 30 minutes of riding, and up to 8 guests can come along on board, with at least 2 crew always on the boat. Children are welcome on board, and the club's English page lists wakesurfing for kids from 5 years old with a kids' coach. Under-14s may only wakesurf with a personal coach. Boards, life jackets, dry towels, cold water and an onboard fresh-water shower are all included, and the club has beginner boards for first-timers. The club also rides at a second base, D-Marine at Jaddaf Waterfront; this page covers Dubai Harbour. The club's website is in English and Russian, and it mentions Russian-speaking instructors. It works as a one-off experience or a series of booked sessions rather than a weekly term class: book a slot, bring swimsuits and share the boat with the family.

The activity

Wakeboarding, explained

Wakesurfing is surfing the wave a boat makes behind it. The rider starts in the water holding a rope, the boat pulls them up onto a small board, and once they are standing on the wave they can let go of the rope and ride it freely. The boat moves slowly and the wave is steady, so it is gentler than wakeboarding, where the rider is towed on a rope the whole time. Beginners learn to stand up, keep their balance and read the wave. For children it builds balance, core strength and water confidence. A life jacket is always worn, and young beginners usually ride with a coach beside them on the boat giving instructions.

Who it's for

Children from 5 years old, riding with a kids' coach (the club's English page). The club's rules say children under 14 are welcome on board but may only wakesurf with a personal coach. Beginners are welcome and the club has beginner-level boards. Adults and experienced riders also book the boat, so kids' sessions sit inside a family or group booking.

What to expect

Arrive about 15 minutes before your slot. The team meets you by the Dubai Harbour Yacht Club building and takes you to the boat by buggy. Bring only swimsuits: boards, life jackets, dry towels, cold water and phone charging are provided, and there is a fresh-water shower on board. Life jackets are compulsory, and the club keeps 4 children's life jackets on the boat at a time. One session is 30 minutes of riding, and a child under 14 rides with a personal coach. There is no published free trial; the kids' session is the way to try it. Changes or cancellations need 24 hours' notice.
