About Zenith Motions Academy
Zenith Motions Academy (ZMA) teaches children jiu-jitsu, through what its site describes as a Jiu-Jitsu-focused mixed martial arts programme built around self-defence, fitness, discipline and confidence. It runs as an after-school programme in schools rather than from a building of its own: the academy's Instagram lists after-school jiu-jitsu for kids at Dubai British School Jumeira, Mira and LLFPM, and its homepage says it is still securing its own location. Its Dubai office is at SO Uptown Tower in DMCC. At Dubai British School Jumeira, the extracurricular (ECA) classes were for DBSJ pupils only, while the after-school (ASA) classes were open to children from the wider community. The 2024 after-school groups there were Little Warriors (5-8), Junior Champions (9-12) and Teen Titans (13-17), plus an adults' group. Its martial arts page says sessions are twice a week, usually about 60 minutes, with times that vary by school and age group. A free trial class is offered, so message the team to ask what is running this term and at which school.
The activity
Jiu-Jitsu, explained
Jiu-jitsu is a grappling martial art. Instead of punches and kicks, children learn to hold, balance, roll and escape on soft mats, usually in a gi (a thick cotton uniform with a belt). Kids' classes tend to open with a game-style warm-up, then a couple of techniques practised slowly with a partner, then light, supervised drilling. Because there is no striking, it suits children who are nervous about getting hurt, and it builds strength, coordination, patience and the confidence to stay calm under pressure. Many clubs take children from about four or five, with playful classes for the youngest and more structured training as they get older.
Who it's for
The 2024 after-school groups at Dubai British School Jumeira, open to non-DBSJ children, were Little Warriors (5-8), Junior Champions (9-12) and Teen Titans (13-17), with an adults' group (Elite Grapplers, 18+). Mini Warriors (3-4) appeared only as a DBSJ-pupils-only extracurricular class with an interest list. The academy's FAQ says its programmes are for children from 4 years old to teenagers, of all skill levels. Parents are asked to share any special needs or medical conditions at enrolment. Confirm this term's groups with the provider.
What to expect
The academy offers a free trial class. Its trial page says a first session is an introduction to the basic techniques and movements of jiu-jitsu, in a fun, interactive class. You book it through the academy's online booking page by choosing a class that matches your child's age, entering their date of birth and sending your details; the site notes trial places are limited each week. For kit, the FAQs say comfortable sportswear is fine to start, and a uniform is provided once your child enrols. The FAQ says parents may watch where space allows, so check for your venue. Fees are not published and the only timetable online is from 2024, so ask the provider for this term's days and fees.
