About Palm Jiu Jitsu Studio
Palm Jiu Jitsu Studio teaches Brazilian jiu-jitsu to children and adults at Fairmont The Palm, on West Beach, Palm Jumeirah. Kids classes run Monday to Saturday for children from four years old, in age groups, and the studio welcomes children and teenagers of all experience levels. It describes its kids classes as a fun, positive place to build confidence, discipline, respect and self-defence skills. The head coach, João Garcia, is a Brazilian black belt who opened his first jiu-jitsu gym in Rio in 2010 and coached the UAE Armed Forces for over 10 years, according to the studio. Private classes are also available, and children can book a free trial class. Free valet parking, changing rooms, lockers, showers and a sauna are on offer. The studio is rated 4.9 on Google from 36 reviews. Message it on WhatsApp to book a trial and check the current class times for your child's age.
The activity
Jiu-Jitsu, explained
Brazilian jiu-jitsu is a grappling martial art built around control, leverage and technique rather than strikes, so size matters less than skill. Students learn safe falls, escapes, positional control and submissions, usually on padded mats and often in a gi (uniform), with progress marked by belts. Regular training builds discipline, body awareness, confidence and fitness. Schools that teach children usually run separate kids classes from adult ones for safety and pacing, and starting ages vary from school to school, so it is always worth asking a studio what it offers for your child's age before the first visit.
Who it's for
Children from 4 years old. The studio's June 2026 timetable grouped kids and teens as ages 4-7, 8-11 and 12-15, and it welcomes children and teenagers of all experience levels. Adults train here too, and private classes are available.
What to expect
Kids classes run Monday to Saturday. The studio's July 2026 timetable lists Kids 1 at 4PM and Kids 2 at 5PM; its June 2026 timetable listed 4PM for ages 4-7, 5PM for ages 8-11 and 6PM for ages 12-15, so ask which group suits your child and the current times. Children can book a free trial class by WhatsApp on +971 55 808 5022. The studio describes its classes as fun and positive, with a focus on confidence, discipline, respect and self-defence. Changing rooms, lockers and showers are on site and valet parking is free. Ask the studio what to wear for the trial and what kit is needed after it.
