About The Brain and Learning
The Brain & Learning is a cognitive skills training centre in office 702, Barsha Business Square, in Al Barsha 1. It says it opened in 2010 as the first brain training centre in the Middle East, and that it has worked with more than 1,000 people since. Its founder, Pooneh Roney, is a former maths teacher who brought the BrainRx programme to Dubai. Rather than tutoring school subjects, the centre trains the skills underneath them: attention, memory, processing speed and sound processing. Everything is one-to-one, for ages 4.5 through to adults. Programmes include ReadRx for reading, MathRx for maths and AccelerateRx for early learners, plus support for focus and attention. Every family starts with a Cognitive Skills Assessment of about an hour, built like a set of brain games, followed by a meeting with the centre director and a written report. The assessment and consultation cost AED 800. Programme fees are not published, so ask the centre once you have the results.

Learning Support, explained
Cognitive skills training, often called brain training, works on the skills underneath learning rather than on school content. Attention, working memory, processing speed, auditory and visual processing, and logic and reasoning are trained through intensive one-to-one exercises, many of them set up like games. Where a tutor re-teaches maths or reading, a brain trainer tries to strengthen the skills that made the subject hard in the first place. It usually starts with an assessment that maps a child's strengths and weaker areas, then a programme built around that profile. Families tend to look at it when reading, maths, focus or homework is a daily struggle. It is not a medical diagnosis. Programmes here start from age 4.5.
Who it's for
Children from age 4.5, teenagers and adults. All training is one-to-one. The centre describes working with children who find reading, spelling, maths, focus or homework hard, including children with dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD or autism spectrum traits, and early learners before school gets harder. It does not diagnose: its assessment gives a cognitive skills profile, not a medical or dyslexia diagnosis.
What to expect
The first step is a Cognitive Skills Assessment using the Gibson Test of Cognitive Skills. It takes about an hour (the centre's FAQ says 45 to 60 minutes) and is designed to feel like a series of brain games, so it is less stressful for your child. Afterwards the centre director goes through the results with you, recommends a way forward and gives you a written report of your child's cognitive profile. The assessment and consultation together cost AED 800, and the centre says there is no obligation to continue. Session length, how many sessions a week and programme fees are not published, so ask the provider.
