About The Brain Accelerator

The Brain Accelerator is a brain training centre inside TDCC on 26 Samari Street, Umm Suqeim 2. It is a licensee of the BrainRx programme and works one-to-one with children, teens and adults on the thinking skills behind learning: attention, memory, processing speed, visual and auditory processing, and logic and reasoning. Every programme begins with a Cognitive Skill Assessment, and the centre then builds a personalised plan, drawing on programmes such as BrainRx for core cognitive skills, AccelerateRx for early learners aged 4 to 7, MathRx for maths and dyscalculia, and ReadRx Pro for reading, decoding and dyslexia. The centre is clear that this is not tutoring: it does not re-teach school content but trains the skills that make learning easier. Families come for a child who is struggling with reading, maths or focus, including children with signs of ADHD, dyslexia or dyscalculia, and also for bright children who want to stretch. It is led by Aalia Thobani, a senior speech-language pathologist and learning disabilities specialist.

The activity

Learning Support, explained

Cognitive skills training, often called brain training, works on the skills underneath schoolwork rather than the schoolwork itself: attention, working and long-term memory, processing speed, visual and auditory processing, and logic and reasoning. Instead of re-teaching a maths topic or a reading lesson, a trainer sits one-to-one with the child and works through short, game-like exercises that get harder as the child improves. Families usually come to it when a child finds reading, maths or focus harder than expected, or wants to stretch further. It sits alongside tutoring and therapies rather than replacing them, and programmes typically start with an assessment of the child's strengths and weaker areas.

Who it's for

The centre's programmes page lists five groups: children aged 4 to 7 who need support with early learning readiness, attention, listening and classroom routines; children and pre-teens aged 7 to 12 struggling with reading, maths, comprehension, focus or processing speed; teens aged 13 to 18 who need stronger study skills, memory and executive function; high achievers and gifted students; and university students and adults. AccelerateRx is for children aged 4 to 7. The centre works with children who have signs of ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia and other learning difficulties, as well as with high-performing learners. The Google listing shows a wheelchair-accessible entrance, toilet, seating and car park.

What to expect

The first step is a Cognitive Skill Assessment, booked through the website or by calling or WhatsApping the centre. The centre uses the Gibson cognitive skills assessment, which looks at attention, memory, processing speed, auditory and visual processing, and reasoning; the results are then used to build a personalised programme. Training is one-to-one with a trainer, using structured, game-like exercises, and the centre says progress is tracked week by week. For young children, AccelerateRx sessions are described as active, hands-on and game-like. Prices, session length and how many sessions a week are not published on the website; ask the provider. No free trial is mentioned.
