What age can my child start at StuDIYo Lab?

From age 5. Children aged 5-8 use hand tools and child-friendly machines, 9-12s move on to power drills and bench sanders, and teens 13+ use the full tool set under supervision.

How much does a first session cost?

A Try-Me session is listed at AED 105 on the workshops page. The site gives its length as 1 hour in one place and 90 minutes in another, so confirm the length when booking. Other single workshops are listed at AED 170 for 1 hour, AED 340 for 2 hours and AED 510 for 3 hours. Prices include materials and the take-home project. Skills Path prices are not published, so ask the studio.

Can my child just try it once?

Yes. The Try-Me session is a single introductory workshop. Book it online through the workshops page, or call or WhatsApp 050 388 8534 or 04 388 8530.

How much is a birthday party?

Package 1 is AED 175 per child for a 1-hour woodworking workshop, 1 hour in the party room and a standard balloon. Package 2 is AED 225 per child for a 2-hour workshop, 1 hour in the party room and a balloon arch. The birthday child goes free. Food, cake, drinks and decorations are not included, but you can bring your own.

Is it suitable for children with special needs?

Yes. The studio runs a special needs programme with one-on-one training, sensory-sensitive and customised projects, and an IBCCES-certified team. Sanad Card holders get their first hour free.

What should my child wear?

Closed-toe shoes are required, plus comfortable clothes that can get dusty. Tie back long hair. The studio provides aprons, safety glasses and other protective kit.

StuDIYo Lab is a woodworking and design technology studio for children on the first floor of Times Square Center on Sheikh Zayed Road, with a second studio in Abu Dhabi Mall. Children from age 5 book single project workshops and leave with the thing they built: a name sign, a pencil holder, a clock or a lamp. A first visit is usually a Try-Me session at AED 105. Longer workshops of one to three hours run from AED 170 to AED 510. Children who want to keep going can join the Skills Path. It has a woodworking module for ages 5-8 and a design technology module for ages 9+, each with five levels of 10 lessons. Children who complete the course receive an ITOL certificate. The studio also hosts birthday parties with a workshop room and a party room, runs holiday camps, and has a special needs programme with one-on-one sessions and an IBCCES-certified team. Founder Lina Sadek opened the Dubai studio in 2019.

Kids' woodworking is exactly what it sounds like: children measure, mark, cut, drill, sand and paint real wood until they have a finished object to carry home, such as a name sign, a pencil holder or a clock. Younger children work with hand tools and child-sized machines while an instructor watches every step; older ones move on to power drills, sanders and simple joinery. Safety glasses, aprons and ear defenders are part of the routine. Along the way children practise fine motor control, patience, following a plan and basic maths through measuring. Many studios take children from about five, and design technology adds wiring and design work for older kids.
