About Tashkeel Makerspace

Tashkeel is a Dubai art and design centre, founded in 2008 as a studio and gallery for visual artists and designers. It has two centres: the Makerspace in Unit 89 at Alserkal Avenue in Al Quoz, and Tashkeel Nad Al Sheba. Alongside adult courses it hosts youth workshops under Tashkeel's Young Artist Club, which is aimed at children aged 4 to 12. The club has two strands: Sunday Funday workshops through the school year, and camps in the spring, summer and winter holidays. The autumn 2026 line-up at the Makerspace includes ceramic hand-building, resin keychains, block printing on tote bags (all for ages 7 to 12) and an underwater-themed painting session. Term-time workshops are single two-hour sessions led by a named tutor or the Tashkeel pottery team, and children make their own piece to take home (ceramics are glazed and fired afterwards). Places are limited, fees are non-refundable, and you book each workshop on Tashkeel's website. Some youth sessions are held at Tashkeel Nad Al Sheba, including the second week of Winter Camp 2026, so check the venue on each booking page.

The activity

Art Classes, explained

Art and craft workshops give children a few hours to make one real thing from start to finish: a painting, a clay pot, a printed bag. A tutor demonstrates a technique, then children try it themselves and take the result home. Along the way they practise fine motor control, planning and patience, and learn that mistakes can be painted over or reshaped. Hands-on media such as clay, print blocks and resin add a sense of how things are actually made. Many studios run one-off drop-in sessions alongside holiday camps, and children often start from around four, with more technical crafts usually offered from about seven.

Who it's for

The Young Artist Club is for children aged 4 to 12. Autumn 2026 Makerspace workshops such as ceramic hand-building, resin keychains and block printing are for ages 7 to 12. Winter Camp 2026 has 4 to 6 and 7 to 12 age groups: sessions from 6 to 10 December are at the Makerspace, and sessions from 13 December are at Tashkeel Nad Al Sheba. A separate Winter Camp strand for 13 to 16s runs at Tashkeel Nad Al Sheba as evening courses, not at the Makerspace. Beginners are welcome: the block printing workshop says no prior experience is needed.

What to expect

Term-time workshops are one two-hour session. Winter Camp sessions run 10AM-12:30PM for 4 to 6s and from 1PM or 1:30PM to 3:30PM for 7 to 12s. A tutor demonstrates the technique, then children make their own piece: a hand-built clay pot or bowl, a resin shaker keychain, a printed cotton tote bag or a painting. Most pieces go home the same day; ceramics are glazed and fired after the workshop. Places are limited; each booking page shows how many spaces are left. Winter camp sessions include a daily meal. No trial is published; each workshop is a one-off session, booked and paid for separately, and fees are non-refundable. For what to bring and whether parents stay, ask the provider.
