About The Jam Jar

thejamjar is a community arts space at Alserkal Avenue in Al Quoz 1, known for DIY canvas painting and a monthly programme of kids' art workshops. Early Exploration covers the youngest: in Artful Toddlers (ages 2.5-4) each child explores colour and texture alongside one adult, and Little Ones (ages 4-6) is a fun, playful acrylic painting session. Junior Workshops run for ages 4-11, and the six-week Young Artists Programme for ages 7-11 works through a different material each Saturday, from yarn and clay to metal foil and fabric. Sessions are listed month by month with a price, age band and capacity of 10 per class, and are paid in full when you book. Outside workshops, families can rent an easel, canvas and paints for a DIY session in the open studio. The studio is open every day from 10am, until 7pm most days and 8pm on Fridays, and Google lists it as women-owned.

The activity

Art Classes, explained

Kids' art classes give children hands-on time with paint and other materials, building fine motor skills, focus, creativity and the confidence to try things without a single 'right answer'. Sessions are usually split by age: toddlers do sensory, exploratory work with colour and texture, often with a parent alongside, while older children take on step-by-step projects and techniques such as acrylic painting, weaving, clay or collage. Many children start from around two or three with parent-and-toddler sessions. It suits kids who like making things with their hands and works well as a low-pressure weekend or after-school activity next to more competitive sports.

Who it's for

Children from 2.5 to 11. Artful Toddlers is for ages 2.5-4 with one adult taking part; Little Ones is for ages 4-6; Junior Workshops cover ages 4-11 (the September 2026 Kids Acrylics session was for ages 6-11); the Young Artists Programme is for ages 7-11, and its projects are described as beginner friendly. DIY painting in the open studio is family-friendly, for first-timers or experienced painters.

What to expect

Arrive 10 minutes early: after 10 minutes a child is marked as a no-show and the session counts as used. For Artful Toddlers (2.5-4), one adult joins in, fully engaged, and the price covers both. For older children, parents can stay in the studio but are asked not to sit in the session. Each class takes up to 10 children and focuses on one project; September 2026 projects included an ocean scene with whales and stingrays and quirky food-animal characters. Sessions are paid in full on booking and can be moved once with 24 hours' notice; refund terms differ between the studio's pages, so check before booking. No trial class is published - ask the provider.
