About Origin Swim Academy - Al Quoz
Origin Swim Academy is a Dubai swim school led by Oussama Sahnoune, a two-time Olympian (Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020) and British Certified Swim Coach. The academy trains at four Dubai pools, in Al Jadaf, Al Quoz, Oud Metha and Al Barsha; this is its Al Quoz pool, at Springdales School Dubai. Children can start Learn to Swim Lessons from 3 years old, in small groups that cover water confidence, floating, breath control, kicking and the foundations of freestyle and backstroke. A youth Learn to Swim programme runs 45-minute sessions for 9 to 16-year-olds who are new to swimming or have limited experience. Stronger swimmers can move up to Pre-Squad and Squad training, aimed at local, national and international competition, where entry may require an assessment. One-to-one Private Swim Lessons run from age 6, at the academy's partner pools or your home or community pool. Lessons run in terms. Fees, class times and which groups train at Al Quoz are not published, so call or WhatsApp to ask.
The activity
Swimming, explained
Swimming lessons for children start with water confidence: getting comfortable putting their face in, floating on front and back, and blowing bubbles to control their breathing. From there, children learn to kick, glide and pull with their arms, then join those pieces into proper strokes, usually freestyle and backstroke first, with breaststroke and butterfly later. Along the way they build water safety, stamina, coordination and the confidence to swim in a pool or at the beach. Many swim schools take children from around age 3 in small groups, and stronger swimmers can move on to squad training and galas.
Who it's for
Children from 3 years old in Learn to Swim Lessons; a youth Learn to Swim programme for ages 9 to 16 who are new to swimming or have limited experience; young swimmers who have mastered the fundamentals in Pre-Squad and Squad (entry may require an assessment, and racing experience is not required); Private Swim Lessons from age 6 to adults. The academy also runs adult classes, including women-only sessions guided by a female coach. Which programmes run at the Al Quoz pool is not published: ask the provider.
What to expect
Learn to Swim Lessons are taught in small groups; the youth programme for ages 9 to 16 runs 45-minute sessions. Early lessons focus on water confidence, floating and breath control, then body position, kicking and propulsion, building towards freestyle and backstroke. The academy says it follows British-certified teaching standards with progressive steps, clear safety rules and continuous supervision, and that most children notice improvement within the first few weeks. When Term 1 registrations opened in August 2026, it welcomed new swimmers and said assessments were available. Lesson length for younger children, a trial lesson, a kit list and which groups run at Al Quoz are not published: ask the provider.
