Music Lessons, explained

Early-years music classes get babies and toddlers moving, singing and playing simple instruments alongside a parent or carer, rather than sitting a child down for formal lessons. Sessions typically mix live singing, percussion instruments, scarves or props and movement games, building rhythm, listening and coordination before a child is old enough to hold a proper instrument. Most programmes start from a few months old and progress in stages as a child grows, moving from parent-and-baby sessions into small preschool groups. It is less about producing a musician early and more about exposure to rhythm, language and bonding through music, with many children later moving on to an instrument once they are school age.

What to expect

A class mixes live singing and live guitar, songs and movement, and hands-on play with real instruments and props such as egg shakers, rainsticks, tambourines, xylophones, scarves and a parachute. A parent or carer takes part alongside the child, and for Rhyme & Chime one parent must attend. Instruments and props are provided, so there is nothing to bring, and children get a participation certificate at the end of a Rhyme & Chime or MOZARTSY term.
