Modern Swim Academy — Academic City (German International School)
About Modern Swim Academy
Modern Swim Academy teaches swimming in partner school pools across Dubai, from Academic City and Al Warqa to Al Barsha, Silicon Oasis and Dubai Festival City. The academy says it has worked in the UAE since 2015 and follows what it calls the Swim American programme, with UAE-certified coaches, a lifeguard at every branch and limited places in each training group. Its programmes include a Swimming for Kids membership package, an inclusion team, private and semi-private lessons, single classes and a trial class, and it also lists competition registration and a Fitness for Swimming Team programme for competitive swimmers. Parents can book a free assessment through the website, and each branch has its own phone line, email and online enquiry form. Prices, age bands and class times are not published online, so ask the branch you pick which groups run there and when.
The activity
Swimming, explained
Learn-to-swim classes take children through structured stages: water confidence and safety first, then stroke technique, then more advanced training for those who want to compete. Younger children usually start with games that build comfort putting their face in the water and floating, before moving on to arm and leg technique for front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke. Classes are usually grouped by age and ability so children progress alongside swimmers at a similar level. Learning to swim is an essential safety skill in a city with year-round pools and beaches, and it is also a low-impact sport that builds fitness, coordination and confidence.
Who it's for
Children, through the academy's Swimming for Kids membership package, which it describes as designed for young swimmers. The academy also runs a Swimming for Inclusion Team package, adult and ladies' packages, and a Fitness for Swimming Team programme it describes as tailored for competitive swimmers. It does not publish age bands or which programmes run at which branch, so ask the branch you pick.
What to expect
Start with the free assessment you can book through the academy's contact form, or a trial class, which the academy offers for families who want to try before committing to a membership. Once your child starts a membership, their place is reserved by age group, level, class time and coach. Payment is in full at registration, fees carry 5% VAT and are non-refundable, and missed classes need 24 hours' notice. Kit and first-session details are not published, so ask the branch.
