About Entropy Jiu Jitsu
Entropy Jiu Jitsu is an independent Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy in a warehouse unit in Al Quoz Industrial Area 1, founded in October 2019 by head professor Thabet Altaher, a third-degree black belt. It now has 200+ active members and takes students from age 3 upwards. Children train in two programmes: Little Champs for ages 3-6, a playful introduction built on movement games, coordination and listening rather than sparring, and Junior BJJ for ages 7-13, which runs in two levels, from fundamentals to live drilling and controlled sparring. Competition is optional. The kids' programme is led by resident coach Ian Bico, a brown belt. Kids classes are 60 minutes and run on weekday afternoons and Sunday mornings. Kids memberships start at AED 650 a month for two classes a week, there's no joining fee, and the first class is free. It's rated 5.0 on Google from 83 reviews.
The activity
Jiu-Jitsu, explained
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling martial art built around technique and leverage rather than strikes, so smaller kids can learn to control much bigger opponents through positioning and joint locks or chokes practised safely and slowly. Classes for children usually start with games and drills that build coordination, balance and listening skills before moving into partner technique. Most academies begin taking children from around age 3-4 in a beginner programme, moving into a more technical junior class as they approach the pre-teen years. Beyond self-defence, BJJ builds discipline, resilience with losing (since sparring is part of training) and a clear sense of progress through a belt/stripe system.
Who it's for
Children aged 3-6 (Little Champs) and 7-13 (Junior BJJ), boys and girls, with no experience needed; the site says shy or nervous children are introduced gradually with no forced participation. Junior BJJ has a beginners' Level 1 and a more advanced Level 2, and the coach recommends a level after the trial. Teens and adults (14+) have their own classes. For special needs, ask the provider.
What to expect
Book the free trial class on WhatsApp. Your child wears comfortable clothes they can move in (t-shirt and shorts or leggings) and the academy lends a gi for the first class; bring a water bottle and flip-flops for walking to the mat. Little Champs sessions last 60 minutes and mix warm-ups, simple technique drills, coordination games and a cool-down, with no sparring. Junior BJJ sessions are also 60 minutes; Level 1 focuses on drilling and positions, not free sparring. Parents can watch from the viewing area. Changing rooms and free parking are on site.
