IJF Academy is a football academy for boys and girls aged 4 to 16, and GEMS Wellington Academy - Al Khail is one of its four listed venues, alongside Victory Heights Primary School, GEMS Jumeirah Primary School and Noya British School in Abu Dhabi. Its programmes follow what the academy calls a Player Pathway Programme, built to give progression whatever a child's level: Get Into Football for ages 4 to 5, the Junior Development Centre for ages 5 to 7, the Development Centre for ages 8 and above, a Girls Academy for players aged four and upwards, a select Squad programme and one-to-one private sessions. Training covers technical skills, tactical awareness, physical fitness and character. The site doesn't say which programmes run at Al Khail, and it doesn't publish prices or session times, so message the academy on WhatsApp or check its ClassCard booking page for the Al Khail timetable.

The activity

Football, explained

Youth football academies build technical skills (ball control, passing, dribbling), tactical understanding, fitness and teamwork through drills and small-sided games. Younger age groups usually focus on fun, coordination and touches on the ball, while older kids move into structured training and matches. Sessions typically run weekly through a term, with coaches grouping children by age and sometimes ability. Most academies in Dubai take children from around age 3-4 through to teenage years, welcoming complete beginners as well as more competitive players.

Who it's for

Boys and girls aged 4-16 of every ability, from first-timers (Get Into Football, 4-5) to the select Squad programme; there is also a Girls Academy for ages four and up.

What to expect

Sessions focus on technical skills, tactical awareness, physical fitness and character development. Get Into Football (4-5) is a playful first step that builds confidence and coordination; the Junior Development Centre (5-7) works on dribbling, passing, shooting and teamwork, and older players can move on to the Development Centre (8+) or the select Squad programme. The academy's site doesn't give a first-session format, session length, kit list or trial policy, and it doesn't say which programmes run at the Al Khail venue - ask the provider on WhatsApp (+971 55 909 4809) or by phone (+971 52 288 4106) before booking through ClassCard.
