Al Wasl Football Academy is the youth football academy of Al Wasl Sports Club, the Dubai club founded in 1960 in Za'abeel, and it sits within the club's grounds. The academy fields age-group teams from the very young upwards. In the 2025-26 Dubai Open Football Academies Championship (DOFA) it had under-7, under-8 and under-9 sides, and the under-9 A team won both the league and the cup. In October 2026 its teams from under-10 to under-15 were playing in the age-group leagues. Places are won at trials: the club's June 2026 trials drew 1,432 players aged 6 to 17, coaches assessed technique, skill and fitness, and 50 players earned a place in the academy teams. So this is a club pathway for keen young footballers rather than a pay-as-you-go class. Fees, training times and the next trial dates are not published, so call the club on +97143243333 to ask. The academy is rated 4.4 on Google from 110 reviews.

The activity

Football, explained

Football sessions build a child's ball control, passing, teamwork and match awareness through drills and small-sided games. Coaches usually group children by age, moving from dribbling and kicking technique towards positional play and full matches as confidence grows. Many clubs start children at around four or five with playful introductory sessions, while competitive squads are organised by age group, such as under-10s or under-12s. Kit is usually trainers or boots, shin pads and a water bottle. It suits energetic children who enjoy being part of a team, and it builds fitness, coordination and friendships alongside the sport itself.

Who it's for

Children and teenagers who love football and want to play for a club team. The academy runs teams by age group: under-7, under-8 and under-9 sides played in DOFA in 2025-26, teams from under-10 to under-15 play in the age-group leagues, and older squads go up to under-21. Places are won at trials, and the June 2026 trials were for players aged 6 to 17. Whether there are girls' teams is not published, so ask the club.

What to expect

Al Wasl is a club pathway, not a drop-in class. Children join through trials: at the June 2026 trials, held over several days, specialised coaches assessed each player's technique, skill and physical ability, 104 players went through to a second stage and 50 won places in the academy teams. Academy teams play competitive matches in age-group leagues and in tournaments such as DOFA and the Dubai Sports Council summer tournament. Training days, kit, fees and the next trial dates are not published. Call the club on +97143243333 or email [email protected] to ask when trials open for your child's age group and what to bring.
