About 101 MMA Academy
101 MMA Academy is a martial arts academy at Stadium Point 306 in Dubai Sports City, where kids and adults, beginners and competitors train under one roof. Children start at five and train in age groups: 5 to 7, 7 to 10 and 11 to 15, in after-school slots from 4pm. Classes cover the parts of MMA: boxing, kickboxing, wrestling and grappling, and each training day has its own focus, from kickboxing and sparring on Monday to a games and fun day on Saturday. The academy says it follows UAE MMAF regulations: no head strikes, no knee or elbow strikes, no hard slams and no aggressive atmosphere. Parents can join in at the Saturday Parents Day, where parents and kids train on the same mat, and members who want to fight can be invited onto the competition team. Monthly plans run from AED 650 for one session a week to AED 1,000 for unlimited training, and the website lets you request a free trial.
The activity
Martial Arts, explained
Mixed martial arts (MMA) puts several combat sports together: striking from boxing and kickboxing, takedowns from wrestling, and holds, escapes and control on the ground from grappling. In a kids' class, children learn stances, footwork, balance and how to fall safely through drills, partner work and games on padded mats. It builds coordination, strength and focus, and gives children a clear set of rules about respect and control, which is where much of the confidence comes from. Starting ages vary by academy; this one takes children from five.
Who it's for
Children from 5 to 15, in three age groups (5-7, 7-10 and 11-15), plus adults. Complete beginners are welcome: the academy says most of its members, kids and adults, start with no experience. Competition is optional; the competition team is by invitation for members who want to fight. The website does not mention provision for special needs, so ask the academy.
What to expect
To start, fill in the sign-up form on the academy's website and request a free trial; a coach follows up to book your child's first class. You can also call +971 52 602 4342. Children are grouped by age into small classes: the 5-7 group trains for 45 minutes and the older groups for an hour. Sessions are built around the day's focus, such as wrestling and flexibility on Tuesday or boxing and conditioning on Wednesday, under the UAE MMAF safety rules the academy follows. The website does not list kit, so ask what your child should wear and bring to the first class.
