The activity

Cricket, explained

Cricket coaching for children covers batting, bowling and fielding technique, usually in nets and then on a pitch, building hand-eye coordination, throwing accuracy and game sense. Sessions tend to move from technique drills to simple match situations as skills develop, with coaches working with small groups or one-on-one. Beginners learn to hold a bat, bowl with a straight arm and catch safely; more experienced young players work on shot selection, line and length, and reading a game. Many children start at primary-school age, and those who progress can move on to club, school and representative cricket.

Who it's for

Reds & Blues is described as for beginners and intermediate players looking to build their skills; the site doesn't publish age bands, so ask the academy which group suits your child. Advanced players can move up to the Road To UAE high-performance programme.

What to expect
