The activity

Basketball, explained

Basketball training builds ball-handling, shooting technique, footwork and team awareness through drills and small-sided games, usually in groups split by age and skill level. Beginners start with dribbling, passing and basic shooting form before moving on to defence, positioning and game strategy as they progress. It suits kids who like a fast-moving team sport, and it builds coordination, fitness and the confidence that comes from playing as part of a team. Starting ages vary from club to club; at Wise Basketball Academy the beginner programme is for ages 6 to 12, so it works well for primary-school children trying the sport for the first time.

Who it's for

Boys and girls from age 6: Beginner Training is for ages 6-12, Intermediate Skills for ages 12-16, and Advanced Team Training plus the Elite Performance Camp for ages 16 and up. The trial form asks for your child's basketball experience (from none upwards), so complete beginners can apply.

What to expect

Start with a free trial: fill in the trial form on the academy's website (your details, your child's name, birthdate, gender, basketball experience and preferred location), or message the academy on WhatsApp on +971 55 613 6132. Beginner sessions focus on ball handling, basic shooting and passing. The academy doesn't publish its kit list, session length, class days or fees, so ask the provider about these when you book the trial, and check which of the four school venues and time slots suit your child's age group.
