The activity

Basketball, explained

Basketball sessions build dribbling, passing, shooting and footwork through drills and small-sided games, alongside teamwork, communication and coordination. The youngest children start with movement games, running, jumping and simple ball handling, then move on to two-handed dribbling, passing and shooting technique. Older and more experienced players work on decision-making, finishing at the basket, defence and game situations, and some go on to school or club teams. It's a fast, high-energy indoor sport that rewards listening and working as a team, and many children begin with a fun, games-based introduction from pre-school age.

Who it's for

Boys and girls from pre-school to late teens: Future Stars is for ages 3-5, and the locations page welcomes players aged 4-18, from complete beginners to advanced players. Fundamentals, Skills Development and Elite Performance follow on by level; the site gives no ages for these, so ask which group suits your child.

What to expect

New players are entitled to one free trial session before registering. Group sessions are one hour, at 11am on Saturday and/or Sunday, at Deira International School, Festival City. Future Stars sessions use fun games and movement activities to build ball handling, coordination and balance, while Fundamentals covers dribbling with both hands, passing, shooting and defensive basics. Every player needs the academy uniform, which is included in the package price. What to bring otherwise isn't listed - ask the provider.
