About Future Athletes Academy
Future Athletes Academy describes itself on Instagram as a judo and martial arts club for kids, teens and adults of all levels, and says it is an official member of the UAE and British Judo Associations. Its website invites families to discover judo classes in DAMAC Hills (at the community centre) and in Mudon (at Ash Mount School), and says it also coaches in Dubai schools and other venues. The website lists further UAE venues without addresses: Tsuna in Al Quoz 3, Lycée Français International Georges Pompidou, Australian International School and Sustainable City. Across the whole academy the site also lists kids cross-fitness, jiu-jitsu, mixed martial arts, karate, rugby and 1-2-1 sport-specific and strength coaching, but it does not say which of these run at which Dubai venue, so ask the academy before you book. Pick DAMAC Hills or Mudon on this page for each judo venue's details.
The activity
Martial Arts, explained
Judo is a grappling martial art: instead of kicks and punches, children learn to grip, unbalance and throw a partner using leverage and timing, then control them on the mat. Every class starts with learning to fall safely (breakfalls, or ukemi), which is a useful skill in its own right. Kids train barefoot on padded mats in a judo suit called a gi, practise throws and groundwork with a partner, and later try randori, judo's controlled sparring. It builds balance, strength, coordination and confidence, and it teaches respect for a partner. Starting ages vary from club to club, so ask the academy what age it takes children from.
Who it's for
Kids, teens and adults of all levels, according to the academy's Instagram and website; the 1-2-1 and Elite Training Programme coaching is aimed at school-aged athletes. Age bands for each class are not published: ask the academy. The Mudon venue is inside a school, so ask whether children who do not attend it can join.
What to expect
The academy's terms mention trial sessions, so ask about booking a trial at your venue before you sign up for a block. For judo, children need a judo gi, but not for a trial session; everyone should wear suitable clothing and footwear and no jewellery. Parents are asked to keep a sensible distance from the mat while sessions run. Any medical conditions must be shared with the academy before your child's first session. Fees are paid in advance, and a place is not confirmed until payment is received. Class times, group sizes and prices are not published for either venue, so ask the academy.
