The activity

Martial Arts, explained

Karate is a martial art built on punches, kicks and blocks, practised through drills and kata - set sequences of moves learned by heart. For children it trains coordination, balance, flexibility and fitness, and it puts real weight on discipline, focus and respect for the coach and training partners. Self-defense sessions use the same basics to teach practical ways of staying safe, while kids fitness sessions focus on movement, strength and stamina. Trainer4Kids says on its Instagram that it coaches ages 3 to 20. How the coach structures his own karate classes, and whether they include belt gradings or sparring, isn't published, so ask when you book the free trial.

Who it's for

Children and teens - the coach says he trains children and teens in karate, youth fitness and self-defense, and his Instagram gives ages 3 to 20. Levels aren't published, so ask the provider. His certifications include special needs training.

What to expect

Every class type - karate, self-defense and kids fitness - has a free trial. You book through a short form on the website (it asks for your contact details, the number of children, date of birth and anything the coach should know) or by WhatsApp. Sessions run at your home, at a gym or privately, and class dates are listed as to be confirmed, so you agree the place and time with the coach. Kit, session length and how the trial runs aren't published, so ask the provider when you book.
