About The Workshop Dubai
The Workshop Dubai is a community art space in a villa in Jumeirah 2, founded by architect and art collector Ghada Kunash. It brings together three things under one roof: Fann À Porter, a contemporary art gallery showing emerging regional and international artists; Café At The Back, a pet-friendly cafe in a garden with books and board games; and a busy calendar of one-off art and DIY workshops. On the October 2026 calendar they include beaded bags, leather journals, coil pottery, patina finishes, resin trays with pressed flowers, sketching, printmaking and perfume making. Sessions last one and a half to three hours, include all materials and VAT, and are taught in English, with some in English and Arabic. It leans towards teens and adults, but every listing states a minimum age: the Beaded Bag workshop is open from age 7, and several others from 10, 11 or 12. Others are 13+, 15+ or adults only, so check the age on each listing before you book.
The activity
Arts & Crafts, explained
Art and craft workshops are one-off, hands-on sessions where you learn a single technique and take home what you make. There is no course to sign up for: you book one date, turn up, and a tutor walks the group through each step. Techniques vary widely, from beaded bags and leather journals to pottery built by hand from coils of clay, resin trays set with pressed flowers, painting in raised plaster and gilded patina finishes. Sessions usually last two to three hours and include the materials. For older children and teenagers they build patience, fine motor skills and the confidence of finishing a real object. Minimum ages are set per workshop, because some materials, like resin, need care.
Who it's for
Teens and adults mainly, with some workshops open to younger children. Every listing states a minimum age. On the October 2026 calendar: Beaded Bag 7+; Kintsugi, Floral Journal Art and Moonlight Aura 10+; Genuine Leather Trifold Journal 11+; Patina Art, Travel Sketching, Food Illustration, Pet Portrait Watercolour and Puffy Scarf 12+; Coil Method Pottery and Linocut Printmaking 13+; Dried Resin Flowers, Sculpture Painting and Impasto 15+. Perfumery, Oud and the emotional regulation workshop are 18+. The listings don't say whether a younger child needs an adult alongside, so ask when you book. No art experience is needed.
What to expect
You pick a dated workshop on the website and book that one session; there is no term or trial class. Sessions run one and a half to three hours, and many listings introduce the tutor. In the Beaded Bag workshop (age 7+), for example, you learn about the materials and types of beads, make your own beaded bag and learn the knots used for belts, necklaces and bracelets. All materials are included, and you take your finished piece home. Classes are in English, with some in English and Arabic. The garden cafe serves salads and smoothies before or after.
