About Mirath Art Center

Mirath Art Center, which calls itself MAC, is an arts centre at Al Qusais Plaza, beside Dubai Residential Oasis and above Prime Medical Center. Four of its six class areas are for children: art and craft, ballet, music and singing, and mental arithmetic, with soft-skills and corporate training for adults on the side. The art programme is split by age. Creative Minds is a one-hour, teacher-guided open studio for 4 to 7 year olds; Expressive Arts runs for two hours for 8 to 12 year olds with pastels, paints, pencils and craftwork; and Art for Teens, from 12, works on design and taking a piece from idea to finish. Ballet covers Pre-Ballet and Classical Ballet in four age groups from age 5, in 45-minute sessions. Music lessons cover piano, guitar and vocals, and the mental arithmetic programme, for ages 5 to 12, uses memory techniques and IQ games. The centre describes its studio as a carefree, uncritical place to try things.

The activity

Arts & Crafts, explained

Art and craft classes give children time to draw, paint, cut, stick and build with a wide mix of materials, guided by a teacher but led by their own ideas. Younger children mostly explore colour, texture and simple techniques; older ones move on to pastels, paint, pencil work and planning a piece from first idea to finished artwork. Along the way they build fine motor control, patience, focus and the confidence to try something without worrying about getting it wrong. Children can start young: at Mirath the youngest art group begins at age 4.

Who it's for

Children from age 4 (Creative Minds art, 4-7), 8-12 (Expressive Arts) and 12+ (Art for Teens). Ballet in four age groups: 5-7, 8-10, 11-13 and 14+. Mental arithmetic for ages 5 to 12. Music (piano, guitar, vocals): ages not published, ask the centre. Separate soft-skills and corporate training for adults.

What to expect

The centre asks new students to pay for an introductory class first, before signing up to the full programme; ask for the price when you message. Creative Minds art classes last an hour and Expressive Arts and Art for Teens two hours; ballet sessions are 45 minutes. The art page says materials are included for Creative Minds and Expressive Arts, while the general fees policy says drawing and painting materials are extra, so check which applies to your child's class. Mental arithmetic comes with occasional homework to hand in the following week. Kit for ballet: ask the provider.
