The activity

Swimming, explained

Learn-to-swim lessons take children through progressive levels, from getting comfortable in the water and basic floating through to full stroke technique and endurance. Classes are usually small groups sorted by ability rather than age, so children move up a level once they can demonstrate the skills, not on a fixed timetable. A typical lesson runs 30-60 minutes depending on the level, with younger or newer swimmers in shorter, smaller sessions. Swimming builds water confidence and safety as well as fitness, and most schools start from around age 3, often with a parent-and-baby option for children younger than that.

Who it's for

Children and teens aged 3 and above, placed in one of 6 progressive levels. Classes are small: up to 5 swimmers at Levels 1-2, 7 at Levels 3-4 and 10 at Levels 5-6. Babies and toddlers can join Moms and Babies group classes at Damac Hills 1, with a parent (mother) in the water and up to 8 babies per class.

What to expect

Before signing up, you can book a full 45-minute trial class or a free 15-minute swimming assessment to find the right starting level. Group classes run Monday to Friday, with Saturday morning classes too; session times are confirmed with the team on WhatsApp after you register. Monthly packages of 4 to 20 classes are valid for 30 calendar days from the first lesson attended, and a flexible package is valid for 45 days, priced on request. There is also a term option for Damac Hills. What to bring to the first lesson isn't published, so ask the provider.
