Speedo Swim Squads — swimming lessons for kids across Dubai
About Speedo Swim Squads
Speedo Swim Squads is a swim club that teaches children from baby swim to competitive racing, at 14 pools listed on its website: 13 in Dubai, mostly school pools such as Dubai College, Citizens School and Dubai International Academy Al Barsha, plus Raffles World Academy in Sharjah. The pathway starts with Baby & Toddlers Swim, a gentle introduction to the water always alongside a parent. Learn to Swim, its flagship programme, begins with Ducklings and Dolphins for 3-5 year olds and moves up through Improver 1 and 2, Bronze, Silver and Gold/Futuras, with a maximum of 10 swimmers per teacher. Children who want to race can join Competition Squads, from Hotshots up to Performance and Elite groups, led by head coach Anis Billi, and there is an Artistic Swimming pathway too. New swimmers start with a free assessment booked online, and parents follow progress on the Speedo app. The head office is in Al Barsha.
The activity
Swimming, explained
Swimming lessons take children from first getting comfortable in the water to confident, independent swimming and, for some, competitive racing. The youngest start with a parent in the pool, building water confidence through play. Lessons then move on to the four strokes - front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly - alongside safety skills like floating and treading water. Children who enjoy it can progress into squad training with a coach, building fitness, technique and race skills. Artistic (synchronised) swimming adds music, choreography and teamwork, with land training for strength and flexibility. At Speedo Swim Squads, structured stroke lessons begin with Ducklings and Dolphins for 3-5 year olds.
Who it's for
Babies and toddlers with a parent in Baby & Toddlers Swim; 3-5 year olds in Ducklings and Dolphins; older children moving up the Learn to Swim levels to Gold/Futuras; and children who want to race or perform in Competition Squads and Artistic Swimming. Age bands for the other levels aren't published, so book the free assessment and ask which group fits. Adults have their own Adult Swim & Masters programme.
What to expect
Getting started is three steps on the club's booking site: create an account, schedule a free assessment at your chosen venue, then book your sessions. The assessment page shows the open slots at each venue for the next 10 days. Ducklings classes have 4 swimmers per teacher and Dolphins groups a maximum of 5; Learn to Swim classes top out at 10 per teacher. Progress is by level, not by speed, and parents can track milestones on the Speedo app. Lessons run in terms. Missed lessons are only made up for documented illness or injury, within the same term; travel and holidays don't qualify. Ask the provider about kit and what to bring.
