The activity

Football, explained

Football coaching for children builds ball control, passing, teamwork and fitness through drills and small-sided games. A typical session starts with a warm-up game to get everyone moving, moves into technical work such as dribbling, passing and shooting, and finishes with a short match so children can use what they have practised. Groups are usually arranged by age, so a five-year-old and a twelve-year-old are not on the same pitch. No experience is needed to start, and children who stick with it gain coordination, confidence and the habit of playing as part of a team. Kit is simple: trainers or boots, shin pads and a water bottle.

Who it's for

Children aged 5 to 14 of all abilities, from complete beginners to children who have played for years. At Al Barsha they train in three age groups: Discovery for 5 to 7 years, Foundation for 8 to 10 years and Development for 11 to 14 years.

What to expect

Start with the free, no-obligation session: book it through the form on the academy's Al Barsha page, and if you need to change or cancel, email [email protected]. After that first session the academy sends you a personalised player assessment. Sessions run for an hour on Thursdays, 6pm to 7pm, and follow the academy's phased syllabus, which focuses on each child's technical skills. The academy asks children to bring a water bottle, football boots without metal studs and suitable football clothes. Confirm the session time when you book.
