Noni Art Studio is a classical art atelier in Dubai run by Noni, a classically trained realist painter who works in the tradition of the old Masters such as Caravaggio, Rembrandt and Vermeer. She teaches painting, drawing and sculpture the way she was taught at Angel Academy of Art in Florence and the Academy of Realist Art in Toronto. The studio lists a Kids' Art Class, a Teen Art Class for teens interested in painting and high school art students, and art portfolio preparation for school, college and university applications, including IB and IGCSE work and courses such as Fashion Design, Architecture, Interior Design, Product Design and Fine Art. Students work at easels on structured projects with individual feedback. Parents of teenagers heading towards art IGCSEs, IB or an art-related degree will find the portfolio side the most distinctive part; the studio also lists a Kids' Art Class (check it is running this term). Adult oil painting classes also run at the studio.

The activity

Art Classes, explained

Classical realist art is taught the way the old European ateliers taught it: you learn to see before you learn to paint. Students draw from observation, study light, shadow and proportion, then move on to colour and oil paint, working on one piece over several sessions rather than finishing a quick craft in an hour. It builds patience, concentration and a trained eye, and for older students it produces the finished work a school or university art portfolio needs. Younger children usually start with drawing and painting basics, while teenagers can take on longer oil paintings and structured portfolio projects.

Who it's for

Children and teenagers who want to learn to draw and paint properly. The studio lists a Kids' Art Class (no age range published; ask the provider) and a Teen Art Class, described as suitable for teens interested in painting and high school art students. Portfolio preparation is aimed at students applying to schools, colleges and universities, including IB and IGCSE art. Adults have a separate oil painting class.

What to expect

Teaching follows traditional atelier methods: observational drawing, composition, colour theory and oil painting, built up through structured projects with individual guidance from Noni, the studio's principal art instructor. The Kids' Art Class is listed as a one-hour session and the Teen Art Class as two hours. The studio offers a free consultation for art portfolio preparation, so that is a good first step for a teenager with a portfolio deadline. No trial class is published for the kids' or teen class, and the studio does not say whether materials are included, so ask the provider before the first session.
