About MX Academy
MX-Academy is a motocross and enduro school at Exit 13, Mina Jebel Ali. It coaches riders at every level, from children aged 4 and complete beginners to racers building up for championships. Most riders spend their first day on a dirt bike here, and professional riders take them through the first steps. For children, the academy has small bikes and small protective kit to rent: bikes for ages 4 to 7, a CRF 110 for ages 8 to 12, and a youth bike for riders from 148cm to 168cm tall. Coaching covers standing and sitting position, braking, throttle control and, later, jumping technique. The academy says groups are kept small so each rider gets individual attention. Coaches listed on its site include UAE and Arab motocross champion Mohammed Al Balooshi and two-time IMBA European champion Chris Moeckli. The academy can give information and take bookings in English and Arabic, and riders with sand skills can go on to guided desert rides and dune bashing (it suggests one or two days at its motocross school first).
The activity
Motocross, explained
Motocross is off-road motorbike riding on a dirt track with jumps, bumps and tight corners. Children start on small, low-powered bikes in full protective kit (helmet, goggles, boots, body armour and gloves) and learn the basics step by step: how to stand and sit on the bike, braking, throttle control and where to put their feet and weight. As confidence grows, they move on to corners, ruts and small jumps. It builds balance, coordination, focus and respect for safety rules. Mini bikes are made for young children, and many academies take riders from around four or five with an instructor close by.
Who it's for
Children from 4 years old, beginners with no riding experience, advanced riders and racers. The academy rents kids' bikes for ages 4-7 and 8-12, a youth bike for riders 148cm-168cm tall, and small protective gear. Its (2018/2019) price list has separate kids' packages for riders up to 12. Desert and enduro rides need motocross experience first. Girls are welcome; the site mentions small bikes and gear for girls and kids.
What to expect
Most riders spend their first ever day on a dirt bike at the academy, so no experience is needed. Professional motocross riders take beginners through the basics: body position, braking, throttle control and where to place their feet and weight on the footpegs. Groups are kept small. The academy can supply the bike and a full set of protective gear, or your child can bring their own. On the 2018/2019 price list, a kids' session lasts 3 hours. Before riding, each participant signs the academy's declaration of agreement and release (for a child, ask the provider who signs). For a trial or taster, ask the provider.
