About Dubai Autodrome

Dubai Autodrome is the motor-racing circuit in Dubai Motor City, and its karting side, the Dubai Kartdrome, is where children come in. There are two tracks: a 620m indoor circuit open to drivers aged 7 and up (minimum height 1.25m), and a 1.2km floodlit outdoor circuit with a tunnel and a bridge for ages 13 and up (minimum height 1.57m). Children can book a single drop-in session (walk-ins if there is space), but there is much more on offer for families who catch the bug. The Dubai Autodrome Karting Academy (DAKA) is a 10-week after-school programme for ages 7 to 16, run in three levels that mix track time with hands-on workshop lessons on kart mechanics. The Kartdrome also runs karting camps in the school holidays, and birthday packages that combine karting with laser tag and racing simulators. For young racers whose family owns a Bambino kart, the Dubai Bambino Cup is a race series for ages 5 to 8 on the outdoor circuit.

The activity

Karting, explained

Karting is motor racing in its smallest form: a low, open go-kart with a small engine, driven round a purpose-built track. Children sit in a snug seat with a helmet, overalls and gloves, learn to steer smoothly, brake before a corner and find the racing line, then start timing their laps. Beyond the thrill, it builds concentration, quick decisions, spatial awareness and a healthy respect for safety rules. Most drop-in karting starts around age 7 once a child is tall enough to reach the pedals; some clubs run dedicated kid-sized karts and race series from about 5. Structured academies add mechanics, race rules and, later, proper competition.

Who it's for

Children aged 7 and up who are at least 1.25m tall can drive the indoor circuit; the outdoor circuit is for ages 13 and up with a minimum height of 1.57m. The DAKA academy takes children aged 7 to 16 (Level 3 up to 17 in the April-June 2026 pack), from complete beginners to children with some karting experience. Holiday camps are for ages 7 to 15 and kids' party packages for ages 7 to 12. The Dubai Bambino Cup race series (ages 5 to 8) is for young drivers racing their own Bambino kart who have passed a Kartdrome driving assessment and written/oral test, so drop-in karting and the academy start at 7. Anyone under 18 needs a parent or legal guardian to sign the disclaimer at registration, and every driver must show a valid ID.

What to expect

For a drop-in indoor session, book online, arrive 60 minutes before your booking, bring your child's ID and make sure they wear closed shoes. A parent signs the under-18 disclaimer, and every driver pays an AED 15 annual membership fee (new or renewing). A session lasts 15 minutes: three minutes paced, then twelve minutes driving on their own. Helmets are provided and disposable gloves are sold on site. In the DAKA academy, a Level 1 evening has up to three 15-minute track sessions plus a 30-minute practical in the workshop, and children progress at their own pace. There is no trial class listed; DAKA fees are non-refundable, so ask the academy about level placement before booking.
