The activity
Football, explained
Football coaching for children builds ball control, passing, teamwork, fitness and confidence through simple drills and small-sided games. Younger players usually start with fun, movement-based sessions using cones and short games, and tactics, positions and match play come in as they get older. Sessions often run on floodlit artificial pitches in the evening, in small groups so every player gets time on the ball, and players usually train in the academy's kit. Many children start between about four and six, but every academy sets its own age groups, so check which group suits your child before the first session.
