About Graffiti Dubai
Graffiti Dubai is an urban art studio and graffiti shop in a warehouse in Al Quoz Industrial Area 4, with painted walls to spray on and a team of artists who also paint murals for brands. For children there are three ways in. The Graffiti School page (last updated March 2024) lists group classes with separate kids' and adult slots, in packages from 4 to 48 classes, with no experience needed and all materials and safety tools provided; confirm they are running. DIY sessions let a small group spray freely on the walls for 60 minutes and take home a canvas each; there is also a glow-in-the-dark version with fluorescent paint under black light. Both DIY sessions are for ages 7 and above. Birthday parties pair a 60-minute artist-led workshop with an hour of party time, and the studio also runs school workshops, in studio or at the school. It suits a creative child of 7 or older who likes big, messy, fast art. It is rated 4.9 on Google from 120 reviews.
The activity
Painting, explained
Graffiti art is painting with spray cans on walls and canvas. Children learn how to hold and control a can, how different caps change the width of the spray, how to layer colours and how to sketch and fill in letters, the stylised writing at the heart of graffiti. It builds hand control, confidence with colour and a sense of design, and because the work is big and quick it suits children who find sitting still at an easel hard. Safety kit is part of the session because spray paint gives off fumes; at Graffiti Dubai safety materials are provided. At Graffiti Dubai, spray sessions and parties start at age 7.
Who it's for
Children aged 7 and above for the Freestyle and Glow in the Dark spray-paint sessions and for birthday parties. The Graffiti School has kids' classes and separate adult classes, but no age range for the kids' classes is published: ask the provider. No experience is needed for any of these. Some other workshops listed on the site are for adults (one canvas class is for ages 16 and above).
What to expect
In a Freestyle Session each person gets a 50x70cm canvas, unlimited spray paints in the colours they choose and 60 minutes to paint on the studio walls and on the canvas, which they take home. Safety materials are provided. The Glow in the Dark session works the same way with fluorescent spray paint in a black-light room. Graffiti School classes cover basic theory and practice with the studio's artists, with all materials and safety tools provided. The site does not mention a trial class: ask the provider. Ask the studio what to wear.
