Scuba diving lets children breathe underwater using a tank and regulator, starting in shallow, calm water with an instructor right beside them. First sessions are about getting comfortable: breathing through the regulator, clearing water from the mask and staying balanced near the bottom. Youth programmes such as PADI Bubblemaker and Seal Team keep it playful, with shallow depths and games or 'missions' built around real skills. Children build water confidence, calm breathing and a habit of following safety steps. PADI's youth programmes start at age 8, and children move on to full certification courses when they are older.
