Swimming, explained
Artistic swimming (once called synchronised swimming) mixes swimming, gymnastics and dance in the water. Swimmers learn to scull, hold their breath, balance upside down and move in time with music, first alone and then in duets and teams performing choreographed routines. Alongside the pool work there is plenty of land training for strength, flexibility and acrobatics. It builds stamina, body control, rhythm and teamwork, and gives children a stage to perform on.
