About Colosseum Muay Thai
Colosseum Muay Thai is a Muay Thai and fitness club on the 601 gym floor of the Montana Building on Zabeel Road, the building with the Nesto supermarket, a short walk from BurJuman metro. It opened in July 2003 and describes itself as the UAE's first Muay Thai gym. Most of the timetable is for adults, but there is a dedicated kids' group class: 60 minutes, three evenings a week, from 6PM to 7PM on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The club says its kids' classes are for children of every level, from complete beginners to more advanced young fighters, and are taught by its trainers from Thailand, with the focus on learning Muay Thai properly in a fun, safe setting. The homepage introduces trainers such as Kru Joe, Kru Lan and Kru Tui. Kids memberships are sold by the month or in longer blocks, and one-to-one sessions are also offered for children. The gym is open seven days a week from 6AM to 10PM.
The activity
Martial Arts, explained
Muay Thai is the national martial art of Thailand, often called the 'art of eight limbs' because it uses fists, elbows, knees and feet. In a children's class, kids learn a proper stance, footwork and how to punch and kick with good technique, mostly on pads and bags held by a coach rather than by fighting each other. Classes mix skill drills with running, skipping and body-weight work, so they build fitness, coordination and balance alongside focus and respect for the coach. Starting ages vary from club to club, so check with the coach before booking a first class.
Who it's for
Children of all Muay Thai levels, from beginners to more advanced, according to the club; a minimum age is not published, so ask the provider. Boys and girls are not separated in the published timetable. One-to-one personal sessions are also available for kids.
What to expect
The kids' group class runs for 60 minutes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6PM to 7PM, led by the club's trainers from Thailand. The club describes it as 'real Muay Thai training' in a fun and safe environment, for children at any level. The club does not publish what kit a child needs or whether a trial class is available, so ask the provider before the first visit. There are changing rooms with lockers at the gym. To arrange a first class, call or WhatsApp the club, or use the enquiry form on its contact page.
