Al Jaddaf

Aqua Nation Sports Academy (ANSA) teaches swimming at Swiss International Scientific School in Dubai Healthcare City, Al Jadaf, one of its 10+ centres across Dubai and Abu Dhabi. This branch uses two pools. The 18m pool hosts the learn-to-swim classes: Aqua Bubble (45 minutes, ages 4.5 to 7), Learn 2 Swim, and Aqua Star (technique and backstroke; its course page says 60 minutes, the FAQ 90, so check with the academy). The 50m Olympic-size, semi-covered, temperature-controlled pool hosts the competitive groups: Aqua Tech (all four strokes, dives and turns), Aqua Swift (90 minutes, at least 5-6 sessions a week) and the Aqua Rapid squad (120 minutes) for state, national and international competition. Lessons are in groups, not one-to-one, and run all year, Tuesday to Sunday. The academy is mentored by Pradeep Kumar, National Swimming Coach of India and a Dronacharya awardee, has a team of 15+ coaches, and has female coaches at all centres. It holds 4.9 on Google from 106 reviews.

The activity

Swimming, explained

Swimming lessons for children start with water confidence: floating, breathing, kicking and getting in and out of the pool safely, before moving on to freestyle and backstroke and later all four competitive strokes, dives and turns. Alongside a life-saving skill, it builds stamina, coordination and confidence, and for keen swimmers it can lead into squad training and galas. At Aqua Nation Sports Academy children join from 4.5 years; the beginner Aqua Bubble class is for ages 4.5 to 7 and aims to have them swimming 25m freestyle before they move up to Aqua Star.

Who it's for

Children from 4.5 years, with no upper age limit. At this branch: beginners (Aqua Bubble for ages 4.5 to 7, Learn 2 Swim, Aqua Star) and competitive swimmers (Aqua Tech, Aqua Swift, Aqua Rapid). Adult and Aqua Fitness classes are listed at other ANSA centres, not this one. Male and female coaches; female coaches are available at all centres.

What to expect

New swimmers start by booking an assessment through the academy's contact page, which places them in the right group. In the youngest groups teachers are in the water with the children. Aqua Bubble runs 45 minutes with up to 6 children per teacher; the FAQ puts Aqua Star at 8-10 children. The Aqua Bubble and Aqua Star pages mention free make-up lessons and a flexible schedule. Beginners need a swimming costume for girls or trunks for boys; the academy prefers Aqua Bubble swimmers not to wear goggles. Trained lifeguards are on duty. Fees are not published - ask the provider.
