The activity

Gymnastics, explained

Gymnastics builds strength, flexibility, balance and body awareness. Rhythmic gymnastics, the Olympic discipline this club is built around, pairs flexibility and acrobatic movement with music and a handheld apparatus: rope, hoop, ball, clubs or ribbon. Aesthetic group gymnastics is a team version where groups perform flowing routines together, which builds teamwork as well as technique. Classes are usually split by age and level, starting with playful recreational sessions that teach the basics and moving on to performance and competitive squads for children who want to perform or compete. Many children start with a short recreational class at around three or four.

Who it's for

Girls only: the club says it is exclusively for training girls, with women coaches. Rhythmic gymnastics is for girls aged 3 to 16, from recreational to national and international level. Gymnastics For All / Rhythmic Fitness is open from 8 years old to adults. Ask the club which age group your daughter would join at the branch you pick.

What to expect

New gymnasts usually start in the Recreational Programme, which the club describes as an introductory class teaching the fundamentals of rhythmic gymnastics and ballet in a friendly, playful setting. Children who want more can move on to performance and competitive squads. The website shows Collegiate International School and Al Raya Sports Hall as open Monday to Saturday, but it does not publish a current class timetable, so confirm your daughter's class day, time and venue on WhatsApp. Trial classes, fees and what to wear are not published, so ask when you enquire.
