The activity

Dance, explained

Dance class introduces children to structured movement set to music, usually in a group led by an instructor. Kids learn steps, rhythm and coordination, build fitness and body awareness, and work towards short routines they perform for family or at an end-of-term showcase. Many studios in Dubai teach several styles side by side - Bollywood, hip-hop, contemporary, classical Indian forms - so children can try a few before settling on a favourite. Most studios take beginners from around age 3, with no prior experience needed, and mix ability levels within each class.

Who it's for

Children, teenagers and adults, from complete beginners to advanced dancers. Bollywood, hip-hop, jazz, Bhangra, Gujarati folk and yoga are listed for all ages; Bharatanatyam, Kathak and gymnastics for kids and teens; Bollywood Fitness, Zumba, contemporary, B-boying and freestyle for teens and adults. No minimum age is published - ask the studio which class suits your child.

What to expect

Start with a trial class: contact the studio by phone, WhatsApp or email with the style, age group and timing you're after, and they will confirm availability and book your first session. No experience is needed - classes are grouped by level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) and instructors assess progress and say when it's time to move up. Wear comfortable, breathable clothing that moves freely, such as leggings or joggers and a fitted top; bare feet or soft dance shoes suit most styles. Whether the trial is free or paid, and the current weekly timetable, are not published - ask the provider.
