About Laasya Performing Arts

Laasya Performing Arts is an Indian classical dance school in the Ibn Battuta Gate office building in Jebel Ali, teaching Kathak and Bharatanatyam. On Instagram it says it has been sharing these two dance forms in Dubai since 2019. Children can start at 5: in May 2026 the school introduced Kathak for young beginners, and its Bharatanatyam teacher posted beginner, intermediate and advanced batches open to all ages from 5. Parents on Google write about daughters learning both styles, including a 13-year-old who joined Kathak, and one says her daughter has trained in Kathak with the same teacher for the past few years. Students get to perform, too. In October 2025 its Kathak students opened the Emirates Loves India Diwali event, and a parent's review mentions shows at Global Village, the Indian Consulate and the school's own annual event. Fees and class times aren't published, so send a message on Instagram or WhatsApp, or call, to ask which batch suits your child.

The activity

Dance, explained

Kathak and Bharatanatyam are two of India's classical dance forms. Kathak, from north India, is known for fast rhythmic footwork with ankle bells, quick spins and storytelling through gesture and expression. Bharatanatyam, from Tamil Nadu in the south, is built on a deep bent-knee stance, crisp lines, precise hand gestures (mudras) and expressive faces. Lessons usually begin with posture, basic steps and counting rhythm, then build into short pieces and full choreographies, often performed on stage at festivals and shows. Both build stamina, balance, memory and confidence, and connect children with music and stories. Many children start at around five or six.

Who it's for

Children from 5, teens and adults who want to learn Kathak or Bharatanatyam. The Bharatanatyam teacher's May 2026 Instagram post for the school says classes are open to all ages from 5, and a June 2025 school post gave Kathak for ages 5 and above. Parents on Google write about daughters learning Bharatanatyam and a 13-year-old who joined Kathak, and the school has advertised adult batches. Ask which batch suits your child's age and level.

What to expect

Classes are in Kathak, the north Indian dance of fast footwork, spins and storytelling, and Bharatanatyam, the south Indian form built on precise poses, hand gestures and expression. May 2026 Instagram posts by the school and its Bharatanatyam teacher list beginner, intermediate and advanced batches for both. Parents' reviews on Google name Sameeksha Joshi as the Kathak teacher and Deepashree as the Bharatanatyam teacher. One describes structured Kathak classes with a strong focus on fundamentals, rhythm and posture, and another praises the calm, kid-friendly way Bharatanatyam is taught. In January 2026 a post shared by the school invited new Bharatanatyam students to book a trial lesson, so ask whether one is available now, and what to wear.
