Volleyball Empire is a Dubai volleyball academy founded by head coach Dimitriy Vdovin, whom the academy describes as a Champions League bronze medallist and UAE champion with over 20 years of professional volleyball experience. Children and teens train indoors at Collegiate International School (CIS) in Umm Suqeim 2 on Monday and Wednesday evenings; the academy's beach sessions at Kite Beach are for adults. The youth side has three groups: Kids, Teens Beginner / Intermediate, and Top Performance for advanced players preparing for school teams, club tryouts and tournaments, with entry by coach agreement. In the Kids U12 group the academy promises individual feedback every session and a maximum of eight kids per coach. Youth training runs in terms with a full-term commitment - Term 1 2026/27 runs from 31 August to 13 December 2026 over 15 weeks - and families can register for one or both training days. A 50 AED group trial is used to see your child's level and place them in the right group.

The activity

Volleyball, explained

Volleyball is a team sport where players keep the ball off the floor with three core skills: passing with the forearms, setting with the fingertips, and serving or hitting it over the net. Children begin with ball control and movement drills, then small games, before moving on to full rallies. It builds hand-eye coordination, quick footwork, jumping power and teamwork, because every rally depends on passing to a teammate. Indoor volleyball is played six-a-side on a court; beach volleyball is played on sand, usually in pairs, which adds leg strength and balance work. Knee pads and court shoes are standard indoor kit. At Volleyball Empire, the youngest group on the current schedule starts at age 6.

Who it's for

The current Term 1 schedule lists Kids for ages 6-12 and Teens Beginner / Intermediate for ages 13-18, while the Kids & Teens page describes Kids U12 as ages 8-12 and Teens Beginners as 13-16, so check the right group for a younger child with the coach. The Teens Beginner group welcomes teens new to volleyball or returning after a break; Top Performance is for advanced teens, by assessment. Nothing is published on special needs support - ask the provider.

What to expect

Book the 50 AED group trial on WhatsApp. Kids and Teens Beginner / Intermediate trials start at 17:30 at Collegiate International School, and the coach uses that first session to see your child's level and confirm the right starting group. Kids sessions last 60 minutes (17:30-18:30) and Teens sessions 90 minutes (17:30-19:00). Bring knee pads, court shoes and water - sessions start on time. Children are asked to stay quiet with balls on the floor while the coach explains a drill; a first disruption brings a verbal reminder and at least a 2-minute pause off court, longer after that, while tears or frustration are not treated as misbehaviour. Once enrolled, a Volleyball Empire training shirt is required for youth training.
