Volleyball, explained

Volleyball is a team sport where two sides keep a ball off the floor on their own side of a high net, using a bump, a set and a spike to send it back over. On sand, the beach version is usually played in smaller teams, so every child touches the ball often, and the soft surface makes diving and jumping more forgiving. Children start by learning to move to the ball, pass it with their forearms and serve underarm, often with a lower net and a lighter ball. It builds footwork, hand-eye coordination, balance, stamina and teamwork, and many clubs take children from primary-school age.

Who it's for

The academy lists Kids & Youth Volleyball Training Sessions alongside its adult sessions, and its academy page is written for beginners learning serving, passing, hitting and setting. There is no formal class age band: the academy page says youth players aged 5 to 12 will enjoy its beginner drills, but that is not a stated entry age. Ask which ages the kids' sessions take, whether groups are split by age or level, and whether girls and boys train together.

What to expect

The academy describes coached sessions under Coach Alaa, built around beginner drills for serving, passing, hitting and setting. The venue's Google photo shows an indoor sand court under a warehouse roof with volleyball nets. The site lists lockers and showers, wifi, free parking and an indoor coffee shop. It does not say what children should wear on the sand, how long a first session lasts or whether parents can watch. A free trial is listed for adult sessions only, so ask whether children can try a session first. Message +971 50 865 9998 on WhatsApp or email [email protected] to check before your first visit.
