About The Journey for Social & Family Consultancy
The Journey is a social and family consultancy on Jumeirah Street in Jumeirah 1. It describes its work as helping young people overcome social challenges that stem from anxiety, fear, depression and low self-esteem. For children and teens aged 6-17 it offers one-to-one sessions with a psychologist, small social skills and counselling groups of 2-6 participants, one-to-one academic tutoring with special education support, and supervised outings to places such as parks, museums and markets where children practise their skills in the real world. Parents meet the psychologists monthly to review progress, and there are separate workshops and support for parents and families. The team lists CDA-licensed psychologists and a head psychologist, and the centre also offers assessments for learning difficulties, ADHD and autism characteristics. Programmes run for 4 to 20 weeks, with the length set after the initial assessment.
The activity
Social Skills, explained
Social skills sessions help children practise the everyday skills that make friendships and school life easier: starting a conversation, taking turns, reading how others feel, handling frustration and working as a team. Sessions usually mix games, role play and group discussion, often in small groups so every child gets a turn to speak. They suit children who feel anxious, shy or unsure in social situations, and some programmes add supervised outings so children can try their new skills in real places. Many programmes start from around school age, and a first meeting normally sets goals with the family.
Who it's for
Children and adolescents aged 6-17 (the centre also works with young adults 18-25, parents and school staff). Aimed at children who struggle with anxiety, low self-esteem, forming friendships or handling social situations. Special education tutoring and assessments for learning difficulties, ADHD and autism characteristics are also offered. The building has a wheelchair-accessible entrance, toilet, seating and car park.
What to expect
The first session is an introductory meeting: the team gets to know your child and your family, understands your needs and talks through the goals you want to reach. From there your child may join one-to-one sessions (The Personal Journey), a small group (The Collective Journey, 2-6 participants) or both. Groups work on communication, teamwork and peer relationships through role play and discussion, and some sessions move out into the community on supervised outings. Programmes run for 4 to 20 weeks, with the length recommended after that first assessment. Prices and trial policy are not published: ask the provider.
