About The Blue Umbrella

The Blue Umbrella is a small skills centre in a villa on Street 57B in Mizhar 1. It describes itself as helping children of all abilities build life skills, with teachers who work out each child's strengths and challenges and set a personal plan, at the child's own pace. The course list is broad: social and interpersonal skills, emotional tools, language classes (English, Arabic, Spanish, French and Mandarin), Quran classes, memory skills such as abacus, calligraphy and cursive writing, numeracy and applied science, a STREAM programme, design and technology (mechanics, robotics, coding and AI) and therapeutic life skills. Inclusion is central to how it presents itself, and its founder, Priti Shah, writes that she has completed a KHDA-certified SEN course and works with children of determination. The centre has also run camps and weekend workshops such as pottery and hydro-rockets, though its events page lists nothing coming up. Ages, fees and timetables are not published, so call or email to ask.

The activity

Social Skills, explained

Social skills sessions help children practise the everyday things that make friendships and classrooms work: taking turns, sharing, listening, reading body language, saying sorry and seeing things from someone else's point of view. Sessions usually mix games, role play and small-group activities with an adult guiding and naming what is happening, so children can try a skill, get feedback and try again. The same work often covers emotions too, such as spotting feelings and using simple coping strategies when things feel hard. Many families come to it for a child who finds groups, change or conflict tricky, including children with additional needs, but any child can benefit. Ask each centre which ages and group sizes it runs.

Who it's for

Children of all abilities, according to the centre, with a clear focus on inclusion and children of determination. Age groups are not published on the site (the FAQ lists the question but shows no answer), so ask the provider.

What to expect

The centre says its teachers first get to know each child's strengths and challenges, then build a personal plan and let the child work at their own pace. On the social skills course that means practising things like taking turns, sharing, compromising, apologising, being a good sport and seeing someone else's point of view, alongside tools for recognising and managing emotions. Group size, session length, kit and whether there is a trial or assessment session are not published: ask the provider. Enrolment is by the contact form on the website, by phone or by email.
