About Surf House Dubai

Surf House Dubai is a surf shop, café and surf and SUP school on Al Soon Street in Umm Suqeim 2, near the beach. It opened in October 2005, and its team has been surfing in Dubai since 1992. For children the main offer is Learn To Surf, an after-school programme that runs each school term in age groups of 5-7, 8-11 and 12+, with sessions on weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings. The term runs from 14 September to 5 December 2026. Children who already have the basics can move on to the Surf Development Program, which adds video analysis, fitness training, surf skating and paddleboarding. There are also private and semi-private kids' lessons, holiday surf and SUP camps from age 5, and surf birthday parties on the beach. Coaches are qualified lifeguards with Level 1 surf coaching, ILS and first aid certificates, and lessons follow the International Surfing Association (ISA) standard. Boards, rash vests and wetsuits are provided.

The activity

Surfing, explained

Surfing means paddling out on a board, catching a wave and riding it back towards the beach. Beginners start on big soft-top boards, which are stable and gentle if they bump into you. A first lesson usually begins on the sand, practising the pop-up from lying to standing, then moves into shallow water where a coach helps each child paddle and catch small waves. Children also learn to read the sea and stay safe in it. It builds balance, core strength, confidence in the ocean and a lot of patience. Dubai's waves are small and not every day brings surf, so schools often mix in paddleboarding, fitness and surf skating. Surf House Dubai's kids' programme starts at age 5.

Who it's for

Children from age 5. Learn To Surf is grouped by age: 5-7, 8-11 and 12+. The Surf Development Program is for children who already know the basics, such as Learn To Surf graduates, and at that level surfers are encouraged to have their own board. Private and semi-private kids' lessons are listed for under-18s and suit beginners through to intermediate surfers. Holiday camps take children from 5 years old. Birthday parties welcome first-timers and children who already surf.

What to expect

Arrive 15 minutes before the lesson, not earlier, because coaches may still be in the water with the previous group. A child who is more than 15 minutes late misses the safety and equipment briefing and cannot join that session or rebook it. Coaches go into the water with the children and help them paddle, catch waves, stand up and steer, and they also teach surf safety and how the ocean works. Soft beginner boards, rash vests and wetsuits are provided. Waves are not guaranteed every week: on flat days, sessions switch to fitness, SUP and ocean-knowledge workshops. You can book a one-off Learn To Surf trial for AED 160. Lessons and packages are non-refundable.
