Star Badminton Academy runs weekly badminton coaching for boys and girls aged 6 to 18 at school and club venues across Dubai and Sharjah, from Al Barsha and Jebel Ali to Al Warqa and Dubai Silicon Oasis. Groups train in one-hour slots split by age, and each venue has its own days and times, so pick your branch on this page to see them. Groups are typically capped at 6 to 8 players per court, and levels run from Foundation (beginner) through Intermediate and Advanced to Elite/Performance. The academy's own app lets parents follow coach feedback, fitness scores, session reminders and match invitations, and handles class choice and payment. Training is sold in 4-, 20- or 40-week packages; once a week starts from AED 237 for 4 weeks, depending on venue. In-academy matches, friendly competitions and seasonal tournaments give keen players a route towards local and regional events. A free trial class can be booked online.

The activity

Badminton, explained

Badminton is a racket sport played with a shuttlecock over a net, usually on an indoor court. For kids it builds hand-eye coordination, footwork, agility and reaction speed, and because rallies are short and fast it suits children who like quick bursts of activity rather than long endurance sport. Coaching usually begins with grip, basic strokes and simple rules before moving on to serves, singles and doubles play. At Star Badminton Academy groups start at age 6. It can stay a relaxed after-school activity or grow into club matches and junior tournaments as a child's interest and ability develop.

Who it's for

Boys and girls aged 6 to 18. Age groups differ a little by venue: Al Barsha, Al Warqa, Al Qusais and Jebel Ali use 6-10, 11-14 and 15-18 slots on their main days, while Oud Metha and Sharjah use 6-12 and 13-18 (Oud Metha runs two 6-12 slots). The academy lists progressive levels from Foundation (beginner) to Intermediate, Advanced and Elite/Performance, with a pathway to local and regional tournaments.

What to expect

Start with a free trial class, booked through the academy's online form. For the trial, the academy asks for an all-black kit (black T-shirt, black shorts or track pants) and non-marking indoor court shoes; rackets and other equipment are provided, so there is no need to buy one first. Bring water. To enrol, you register your child with their Emirates ID name, a head photo and an Emirates ID copy, then choose a class and pay in the academy's app; login details arrive by WhatsApp or SMS. The training uniform is normally collected at the venue from the first session. Groups are typically 6 to 8 players per court. Session days and times depend on the venue, so check your branch's timetable before booking.
