The activity

Music Lessons, explained

Music lessons introduce children to an instrument or singing through regular sessions with a teacher, building rhythm, listening and technique before moving on to reading music and performing. Dance classes develop coordination, musicality and confidence through structured movement, from ballet to hip-hop and Latin styles. Many children start with a short trial lesson so a teacher can suggest which instrument or style suits them. Soma teaches both music and dance under one roof, so a family with one child keen on piano and another on dance can use the same academy. Sessions here typically last 45-60 minutes and are offered one-to-one or in small groups.

Who it's for

Children and adults: Soma publishes separate kids' and adults' fees and says its lessons suit beginners through to experienced performers. The site does not give minimum ages or say where the kids' rate ends - ask the provider which age group your child falls into.

What to expect

Soma advertises a limited-time free trial class. You register on the website with your name, phone number, email and the subject you're interested in - options range from piano, guitar, singing and violin to ballet, hip-hop and contemporary. The academy says the trial is a chance to meet an instructor and see their teaching style, get a suggestion on the most suitable instrument or approach, and look round the lesson rooms. Regular lessons usually last 45-60 minutes. What to bring and whether an instrument is needed at home are not published - ask the provider.
