The Mystic Keys is an online music school: every lesson is live over video call, and the school says it does not offer face-to-face classes. Courses cover keyboard, piano, acoustic and electric guitar, drums, advanced violin, ukulele and singing, Western vocals, Carnatic and Hindustani vocals, choir training and music theory, taught one-on-one or, for some courses, in small groups. Classes usually last about an hour, at a time families pick to suit their time zone, and session recordings are available for practice at home. The piano course has its own beginners and kids curriculum, and the school prepares students for graded exams, with Trinity College London results posted on its site. Its sign-up form runs from 'Below 5' to 'Above 55', and the first demo session is free. The school was founded in 2011 by musician Joshen Koshy.

The activity

Music Lessons, explained

One-on-one music lessons teach kids an instrument or singing style through a weekly session with a dedicated teacher, building technique, reading music and repertoire at their own pace. A typical class runs about an hour and covers warm-ups, a technical exercise and a piece of music, with homework to practise between sessions. Online lessons work the same way over video call, using a keyboard, guitar or other instrument at home, which suits younger children who still need a parent nearby and families who want flexible timing. Most schools offer a trial lesson first so the child and teacher can see if it's a good match before committing to a term.

Who it's for

Children and adults: the school's sign-up form offers age bands from 'Below 5' through 5 to 7, 8 to 10, 11 to 14 and 15 to 18, up to 'Above 55', and the piano course has a dedicated beginners and kids curriculum. No prior experience is needed for most courses; some advanced courses need basic music theory. Nothing is published on special needs support - ask the provider.

What to expect

Sign-up runs in five steps: fill in the course form, pick a convenient time, chat with the school's music team, take a demo session to meet the tutor and discuss your child's needs, then pay and start. The demo session is free; fees start from the first class and are paid in advance. Lessons are live online and usually about an hour. For piano, the school says an acoustic piano or a good digital piano with weighted keys is ideal. Rescheduling is only allowed in emergencies, with at least 24 hours' notice; a no-show or late notice counts as a forfeited lesson, with no refund.
