Smith Academy is a rhythmic gymnastics academy with five locations: Dubai Marina, Business Bay, Jumeirah, Dubai Hills and Abu Dhabi (Al Raha). The academy says it has been teaching rhythmic gymnastics in Dubai for more than 11 years. Its website describes two kinds of training space: pink 'Barbie-style' studios for beginners, and professional arenas with high ceilings for Potential and Elite gymnasts. Dubai Hills is described as a spacious high-performance environment for Potential and Elite gymnasts, while Business Bay is a child-first space for early development and technical foundations, so ask which levels run at the branch you pick. Across the academy, children are grouped by age and skill: Level 1 for ages 3-5, Level 2 for ages 5-9, a Teenagers programme for girls from 12, and two competitive squads, the Potential Team and the Elite Team, which trains gymnasts for national and international competitions. Coaches listed on the site include Masters of Sport and former national team gymnasts. A free trial class can be booked through the website form, where you choose your location, or on WhatsApp.

The activity

Gymnastics, explained

Rhythmic gymnastics combines flexibility, balance and dance-like movement with hand apparatus such as ribbons, hoops and balls, set to music. Young children start with movement foundations, musicality and confidence, then progress through technical levels as strength and coordination develop. It builds posture, discipline and body awareness, and children who love it can move on to competitive squads that train several times a week. At Smith Academy the youngest level starts at age 3, and the academy also runs a programme for girls who first try the sport from age 12.

Who it's for

Across the academy: Level 1 for ages 3-5, Level 2 for ages 5-9, Teenagers for girls aged 12 and above, plus the Potential Team and Elite Team for competitive gymnasts. The site describes Dubai Hills as an environment for Potential and Elite gymnasts and Business Bay as a space for early development - ask which levels are taught at the branch you pick.

What to expect

Start with a free trial class: fill in the form on the website (choosing your location) or message the academy on WhatsApp. The site invites parents to share their child's age and experience so a coach can recommend the right first class. Level 1 sessions for ages 3-5 run 1 hour (Level B) or 1.5 hours (Level A); the Teenagers programme is 1-2 hours, 2-3 times a week; the Potential Team trains at least 3 times a week for 3 hours. Prices, kit and what to bring are not published - ask the academy. Pick a branch on this page for its address and rating.
