About Rose Ballet
Rose Ballet is a children's ballet school at Festival Plaza mall in Jebel Ali, with a second Dubai branch on Al Qudra Road in Arabian Ranches 2. It teaches classical ballet from age 2 in four age groups - 2-3, 4-5, 6-8 and 9-13 - and also offers individual classes. The school says its programme is based on the Vaganova method and was developed with ballet artists from Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre. Classes grow with the children: 45 minutes with a maximum of 8 for toddlers, 50 minutes with up to 10 for 4-5s, and 60 minutes with 10-12 for the older groups, where the 9-13s begin pointe work. Toddler classes are playful, mixing basic positions with classical music, acting and improvisation. Children take part in an open class around three months after starting, and the school holds concerts every six months. Boys are welcome, terms are paid quarterly from 500 AED, and a trial class is advertised at 50 AED. Rose Ballet also runs ballet, barre, stretching and Pilates for women aged 16 and over.
The activity
Ballet, explained
Ballet teaches classical technique - posture, turnout, balance and the basic positions of the feet and arms - through structured exercises set to music, first on the floor and at the barre, then in the centre of the room. Younger children work on coordination, listening and following a teacher's counts through playful movement; older ones build strength, flexibility and control, and eventually move on to pointe work once they are physically ready. Many ballet schools take children from around age 2-3 in a play-led group and split classes by age as technique develops. It suits children who enjoy music and routine, and it gives a strong base for other dance styles.
Who it's for
Children from age 2, in four groups: 2-3, 4-5, 6-8 and 9-13. The 9-13 class is described as advanced, for children who have already trained for some time, and individual classes are available. Boys are welcome, and the school says it accepts all children who have no medical problems - if your child has additional needs, ask the provider before booking.
What to expect
Book a trial through the form on the kids' site: choose a branch, your child's age group and your preferred days and times, and the school confirms by email depending on places. For the trial, children wear whatever comfortable clothes they have - a T-shirt, skirt or leggings and socks - and the school asks you not to buy special shoes. Parents are welcome to watch the trial; the school notes most children are happy to let mums go from the second lesson. Regular classes follow a dress code of leotard, tutu and ballet shoes, sold at the school and free for families who pay for six months or a year. Every child gets a free progress diary.
